Private Pilots travel from one country to another so have to deal with the processes and idiosyncrasies of each jurisdiction. OnlineGar.com has addressed that need with respect to the UK Border for over a decade. From the 26th Feb 2026 the UK will be introducing checks on whether person entering UK have valid permissions (mainly in the form of an electronic visa ETA) This is colloquially known as the ‘permission to travel’ system. Consequently from that date it will no longer be a question of submitting a GAAR (General Aviation Report) . Yoou will need to receive the repsonse to a check on whether anyone on your crew/pax manifest has the relevant permission/authority. This is emphatically the commander’s responsibility
OnlineGAR.com the web service way of submitting GAR’s does not have this facility and will no longer be able to submit GARs from the above date. Online Gar / MyGar.net is trying to address that in a one stop app.
These apps have been developed from original work which was intended to move towards a form of universal ‘prior permission’ app. The rapid changes in the UK changed the direction to address this permission to travel issue. The Apps have had several incarnations (and names – see diagram below) but are now gathered under MyGar.net
OnlineGar offered a facility to submit General Aviation Reports directly from its website to UK Border Force. It allowed you to store information in its cloud and speed up the process of creating and submitting a GAR. From 26 February 2026 Uk Border Force will place additional requirements on commanders of aircraft bringing passengers or crew into the UK. Fines may be imposed if directives are ignored. For several reasons the OnlineGAR web system cannot continue to provide an enhanced service. Instead the same facility for submitting a UKBF GAR (as well as documentation for other jurisdictions such as Ireland, Channel Islands, IoM, France, Belgium) will be provided via Apps –
You will need to register here but you will also need to download an App for whatever devices you wish to use. The apps are available for Ios, Mac, Windows and Android.
To see a complete guide to the apps and how they work see ‘support‘
Note : the MyGAR.net site does NOT provide any facility to submit a GAR under the permission to travel system – it is not a web service like OnlineGAR.com. It provides information and access to the apps. You must download and install the apps in order to submit a valid ‘permission to travel’ GAR. This may cause tedium to users – why do we have to change – the reasons are too many to discuss here. But there are several benefits.
- your data can still be synchronised across devices’
- you wont have to login all the time with 2 or 3 stage authorisations
- the apps will provide some documentation (pdfs) for other jurisdictions (a facility we intend to expand)
